1. Adding your text
Add plate_text to the picture address and the text is drawn onto the vehicle's plate, at the angle of the picture, so it sits on the vehicle rather than over it.

People use it for a brand or a short code, a booking reference, or a driver's real plate, so a rider can match the picture to the car at the kerb.
2. What a plate takes
Up to 10 characters: the letters A to Z, digits, spaces and hyphens. Lower-case letters are set in capitals, so rent24 is drawn as RENT24, and spaces at either end are trimmed.
A plate value never stops the picture. Any other character is left out and the rest is drawn; anything past 10 characters is cut. The response says what happened, for example:
We drew the first 10: "NORTHGATEA".
When none of the text can be drawn, the plate is served blank and the response says so. An empty plate_text is no plate text at all.
3. Two plate faces
By default the text is drawn onto the plate the picture already has. Add plate_style=plain to draw it on a plain white plate instead, in one fixed typeface. plate_style=plain on its own gives an empty white plate.
4. Where there is no plate
The two side views show no plate, and some vehicles carry none: every view of a boat, an aircraft (a plane or a helicopter), a construction machine, or an ATV or side-by-side, and the front views of a motorcycle, a farm machine or a motorcycle-style three-wheeler. There the plate options are left out, the picture is served as usual, and the response says what was left out.
5. In basic settings
Plate text comes with every full request, on every plan, the free plan's first 150 pictures a month included. Once the month's full requests are used up, pictures come in basic settings with a blank plate until the month resets. On the free plan the response says:
Licence plate text is available for your first 150 requests each month. We served a blank plate.
6. We never keep the text
A real plate number can count as personal information. The text is used to draw your picture and is written nowhere: the record of a request notes only that plate text was used, and shows YOUR_PLATE_TEXT where the text was.
